Guangjie Hopton

Guangjie Hopton has been with Alibaba Group in Hong Kong for 13 years and has served as its Assistant General Counsel. Originally from Qingdao, China, Guangjie graduated from Nanjing University in the PRC, and later obtained a Masters degree in International Education from Boston University.
She earned her J.D. at Northwestern School of Law at Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon, and is a member of the Oregon State Bar.
Upon coming to Hong Kong in 1997, she served in several U.S. law firms over 8 years and was with Latham & Watkins LLP before joining Alibaba Group. At Alibaba, she has worked on most of the milestone transactions including the initial 40% interest Yahoo acquisition in Alibaba and the subsequent buyback and two IPOs, the latter being the world’s largest of all time still four years later.
